Frequently asked questions
General Questions
Do I need any experience to start?
No. We welcome beginners every week. Our classes are structured to guide new students step-by-step through fundamentals so you can learn at a comfortable pace.
What should I wear to my first class?
Athletic clothing is perfect—preferably something fitted enough to stay in place. We’ll help you size and order a gi or rashguard set once you decide to join.
Do you offer both gi and no-gi classes?
Yes. We offer a full program that includes gi, no-gi, and structured technique classes for adults, kids, and youth.
Can I try a class before signing up?
Absolutely. We encourage all new students—kids and adults—to take a free trial class so you can get a feel for the environment and teaching style.
Adult program
Is jiu-jitsu too intense for beginners?
Not at all. Classes are paced so beginners can learn safely without feeling overwhelmed. You’ll start with fundamentals and build up at your own speed.
Do I have to get in shape before starting?
No. Jiu-jitsu gets you in shape. You’ll improve your fitness, strength, and mobility naturally through training.
Is live training mandatory?
Live training (rounds) is encouraged but never forced. Beginners can ease into it when they feel comfortable.
Kids & youth program
Which class should my child attend?
• Ages 4–6: Kids Class (foundations, movement, basics)
• Ages 7–14: Youth Class (more structure, technique, discipline)
If you’re unsure, our instructors will help with placement.
How do you handle shy, high-energy, or special needs kids?
We meet every child where they are. Our instructors are patient and experienced, and we adjust communication and expectations to support each student’s success. Studio 671 is a welcoming space for all abilities.
Will my child spar?
Younger kids do more drilling and guided movement. Older students (8–14) may do controlled live training once they’ve demonstrated understanding, safety, and readiness.
Training environment
What is the culture like at Studio 671?
Supportive, respectful, community-focused, and growth-oriented. We value clean training, strong fundamentals, and creating an environment where everyone feels welcome—whether you’re here for fitness, self-defense, or long-term development.
What if I have injuries or limitations?
Let us know before class and we will adjust your training as needed. Safety and longevity always come first.
How clean is the gym?
Our mats are cleaned daily, and the entire facility is maintained on a regular schedule to ensure a safe, sanitary, and professional training environment.
What are your hygiene expectations for students?
Good hygiene is part of being a respectful training partner. We ask that all students:
• Wear clean training gear to every class
• Keep nails trimmed
• Shower after training
• Avoid training if sick or contagious
• Bring their own water bottle and avoid sharing personal items
• Remove jewelry
We work together as a community to keep the mats clean and maintain a healthy, comfortable space for everyone.
